Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large onions
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup buttermilk
Instructions
- Start by peeling the onions and slicing them into thin rings, about ¼ inch thick.
- Place the sliced onions in a bowl and cover them with buttermilk. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Remove the onions from the buttermilk, allowing excess liquid to drip off. Dip each ring into the flour mixture, ensuring they are well coated. Shake off any excess flour.
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Spray the air fryer basket lightly with cooking spray. Place a single layer of onion rings in the basket, ensuring they don’t overlap. Spray the tops lightly with cooking spray. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
- Carefully remove the crispy onions from the air fryer and let them cool slightly on a wire rack.
Notes
- For a gluten-free option, substitute all-purpose flour with gluten-free flour.
- You can also experiment with different spices or add grated Parmesan for a cheesy twist.
