For the Bread:
- 3 tablespoons unsalted Irish butter, melted
- 3 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon fine salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 4 ounces Irish cheddar, shredded
- 12 ounces Irish beer (such as Killian’s Irish Red)
For the Garlic Butter Topping:
- 2 tablespoons unsalted Irish butter
- 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Brush a 9×5-inch loaf pan with some of the melted butter.
- In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Stir in shredded cheddar.
- Make a well in the center and pour in the beer. Stir until just combined.
- Transfer batter to prepared pan and spread evenly.
- Pour remaining melted butter over top and bake 45–50 minutes until a tester comes out clean.
- For topping, melt 2 tablespoons butter in a small saucepan. Stir in parsley, garlic powder, and salt.
- Brush garlic butter over hot bread immediately after baking.
- Cool 10–15 minutes in pan, then transfer to wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
