Are they a baked apple or apple crisp? These fun desserts are a little bit of both. Tasty baked apples topped with a crunchy brown sugar and oat topping. They’re perfect individually sized treats that might just become your favorite fall dessert.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • â…“ cup light brown sugar, packed
  • â…“ cup all-purpose flour
  • â…” cup rolled oats
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 dash nutmeg
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 4 large baking apples
  • ½ cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large oven-proof skillet, melt the butter.
  3. Pour the melted butter into a medium mixing bowl and add the brown sugar, flour, rolled oats, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until combined.
  4. Wash the apples and cut them in half through the stem. Use a spoon, small knife, or melon baller to remove the core.
  5. Place apples, skin side down, in the greased skillet.
  6. Stuff the apples with the filling mixture, pressing lightly to keep it in place. Pour the water around the apples.
  7. Cover tightly and bake for 20 minutes. Remove cover and bake an additional 30–40 minutes, or until apples are fork-tender but not mushy.
  8. Serve warm with ice cream and a drizzle of caramel if desired.

Notes

  • Use firm baking apples like Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Braeburn for best results.
  • Add chopped pecans or walnuts to the oat mixture for extra crunch.
  • Store leftovers covered in the fridge and reheat before serving.
