  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (for sauce)
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for sauce)
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (for onions)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, grated ginger, minced garlic, and sesame oil. Toss beef strips in the marinade and let sit 10–15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions until soft and slightly caramelized. Season with salt and pepper, then remove from pan.
  3. Heat 2 tbsp vegetable oil in the same pan over high heat. Stir-fry marinated beef strips for 2–3 minutes until browned.
  4. Whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch in a small bowl. Pour over beef and simmer until thickened.
  5. Add sautéed onions back into the pan, stirring to combine.
  6. Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

  • Use flank steak for a leaner option.
  • Adjust spice level by adding red pepper flakes or Szechuan peppercorns.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
