Sweet Alabama Pecanbread is a beloved Southern classic that’s moist, buttery, and packed with crunchy pecans in every bite. This easy, old-fashioned dessert delivers the perfect balance of sweet and nutty flavor, making it ideal for holidays, potlucks, or everyday snacking.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, brown sugar, oil (or melted butter), and eggs until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Fold in chopped pecans evenly.
  6. Spread batter into prepared pan and bake for 30–35 minutes, until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow to cool completely before slicing into squares. Serve at room temperature or slightly warm.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter to keep the bread tender.
  • Toast pecans lightly for deeper nutty flavor if desired.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
