Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
  • 1 cinnamon stick or 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 vanilla bean, split and scraped (or 1 tsp vanilla extract)
  • 1 black tea bag or 1 tsp loose-leaf black tea (optional)
  • 1 tsp sugar, honey, or sweetener of choice
  • 1 star anise (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bring 1 cup of water to a low boil in a small pot.
  2. Add the cinnamon stick and vanilla bean. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer gently.
  3. Let the mixture steep for about 10 minutes.
  4. Strain the vanilla-cinnamon infusion into a cup. Add black tea if using and steep for 3–5 minutes. Stir in sweetener if desired.
  5. In a separate container, gently heat the milk until warm (do not boil). Froth if desired.
  6. Pour the warm milk into the tea and stir gently.
  7. Garnish with ground cinnamon, a cinnamon stick, or star anise. Serve hot or over ice.
