  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, chopped onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Mix until just combined and form into 4 oval-shaped patties.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Cook the patties for 4 to 5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, melt butter and add sliced mushrooms.
  6. Sauté mushrooms for 5 minutes until golden and tender.
  7. Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir well to coat evenly.
  8. Slowly whisk in beef broth until smooth and lump-free.
  9. Add onion powder and fresh thyme, then simmer for 3 to 4 minutes until the gravy thickens.
  10. Return the patties to the skillet and spoon gravy over them.
  11. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes until the steaks are fully cooked.
  12. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot with mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef for the best balance of flavor and texture without excess grease.
  • Allow the gravy to simmer gently so it thickens into a rich and silky sauce.
  • Fresh thyme adds classic savory flavor, but dried thyme can be substituted if needed.
