Ingredients
- For the Filling:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb Italian sausage, casings removed
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- For the Crust:
- 2 refrigerated pie crusts
- 1 egg, beaten for egg wash
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add diced onion and bell pepper, sautéing until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add ground beef and Italian sausage, breaking the meat apart while cooking until browned and fully cooked.
- Drain excess grease if necessary.
- Stir in Italian seasoning, crushed red pepper flakes, marinara sauce, salt, and black pepper.
- Simmer the mixture for 5 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Stir in Parmesan and mozzarella cheese until combined.
- Roll one pie crust into a deep pie dish and spoon the filling evenly inside.
- Cover with the second crust and crimp the edges to seal.
- Cut small slits on top for steam to escape and brush with beaten egg.
- Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until the crust is golden brown and crisp.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before slicing and serving.

- Allow the pie to rest for several minutes before slicing to help the filling set properly.
