- 1 lb ground beef 85/15
- 12 oz spaghetti
- 3 tablespoons salted butter
- 5 cloves garlic, freshly minced
- 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
- 1 24 oz jar spaghetti sauce
- ½ cup low sodium chicken or beef broth
- 1½ teaspoons Italian seasoning
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- ½ teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F. Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
- Cook spaghetti in salted boiling water 1–2 minutes less than package directions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown ground beef with diced onion until fully cooked. Drain excess grease.
- Add butter and garlic. Cook 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add spaghetti sauce, broth, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Toss cooked spaghetti into sauce until fully coated.
- Transfer to baking dish and top with mozzarella and Parmesan.
- Cover with foil (sprayed to prevent sticking) and bake 15 minutes.
- Uncover and bake another 10–15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Rest 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Make ahead: assemble and refrigerate overnight, then bake with extra 5–8 minutes.
- Freeze: assemble unbaked and freeze up to 3 months.
- Add spinach to the sauce for extra nutrients without changing flavor.
